When It’s Your Time

Only what’s done for Christ will last. Nothing else highly matters as this. Nothing else is worth spending one’s life than this. Nothing else counts the most but how we live our life for Christ.

We can have so many desires and ambitions in life. We want to get rich, to be successful, to be famous, or to have many possessions. Oftentimes, what we desire are things that would satisfy our physical comforts and the way people perceive us. But, even when these things matter greatly to us and the people around us, do they really and truly matter when we reach the time for us to leave this earthly life?

This is the lesson I am reminded of today through the sermon of the Pastor in our school. We have a Friday Service in school earlier today and I was so blessed by the message and the hymn they sang.

The hymn, “Only One Life” sparks a reminder that we are not alive in the flesh for eternity. We only have one life living in the flesh and the question is, how do we spend this one life that God gave us? Do we live for the pleasures of this world? Do we prioritize what the self wants? Or do we spend our life living for Christ?

We may have all that we wanted and do all we have dreamed of, but when it is our time to traverse toward eternity, “what do we have”?

In truth, our money, possessions, and achievements do not count at all at the feet of Jesus. We are not judged by how much money we have made or what degree we have completed. We are not judged by how successful we are financially or how great is our career, but we are judged by our standing and relationship with Jesus Christ. And if we lived our life with great fulfillment as we lived it well for Christ, how beautiful would our last day be because we have a precious thing in our life — our faith in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

So we must seek God while we are still alive in this flesh. While we still have the chance to follow the Lord and obey Him, we must seek God and His will.

Seek you Yahweh and his strength; Seek his face forever more.

– 1 Chronicles 16:11 (WEB)

One life and one purpose, that is to seek God all of our days. One heart and desire, that is to live for Christ alone. May the will of God be our heart’s delight that we may not only have started the faith journey with fervor but that we may also finish it well.

If we live our life for Jesus, we will not tremble in shame but we will be joyful to meet our Savior in glory when our time comes to an end.

For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

– Romans 14:8 (WEB)

One thing I have asked of Yahweh, that I will seek after, That I may dwell in the house of Yahweh all the days of my life, To see Yahweh’s beauty, And to inquire in his temple.

Only One Life

Hymn by Lanny Wolfe

It matters so little
How much you may own
The places you’ve been
Or the people that you’ve known
For it all comes to nothing
When placed at His feet
It is nothing to Jesus
Only memories to keep

You may take all the treasures
From far away lands
Take all the riches
You can hold in your hands
And take all the pleasures
That your riches can buy
But what will you have
When it’s your time to die

Only one life, so soon it will pass
Only what’s done for Christ will last
Only one chance to do His will
So give to Jesus all your days
It’s the only life that pays
When you recall you have but one life

The days pass so swiftly
The months come and go
The years melt away
Like new falling snow
Spring turns to summer
And summer to fall
Autumn brings winter
Then death comes to all
