You Are Not Alone

When was the last time you felt alone? I am an only child, and oftentimes, in my growing years, I had no one to talk to or share what I truly felt. In my teen years, although I had some close friends, there were times when I felt alone, especially at times when I felt down. It was difficult to not have someone with whom I could talk or confide in.

The feeling of being alone, and the experience of going through a struggle without having emotional support from a friend or loved one is lonely and painful. However, this is not true when we have God in our life. God becomes our refuge (shelter or place of safety) and strength (power, toughness, or endurance).

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.  Therefore we won’t be afraid, though the earth changes, though the mountains are shaken into the heart of the seas; though its waters roar and are troubled, though the mountains tremble with their swelling.
Psalm 46 : 1-3 (WEB)

Imagine how strong and capable we can become if we rely on God! He is not  just there helping and lifting us up, but He is our place of safety, and He is our power.

God is always present to help us in our troubles. And so we will not be afraid of the difficult, and painful situations in life. What is the reason for our courage and confidence amid problems and trials? It is the presence of God and His sure help.

You are not alone. When the enemy tries to convince you that you have no one to turn to, or when your emotions win over you, resist and step in faith, declaring the truth that you are not alone because the King of kings and the Creator of the universe is with you, holding you up and sheltering you under His wings.

He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of Yahweh, “He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.” For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler, and from the deadly pestilence. He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day, nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that wastes at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it will not come near you. You will only look with your eyes, and see the recompense of the wicked. Because you have made Yahweh your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, no evil shall happen to you, neither shall any plague come near your dwelling.
Psalm 91 : 1-10 (WEB)

Hold on tightly to God’s promise that He never leaves nor forsakes His children (Hebrews 13:5).

A Humble Spirit

Lord, please give me a humble spirit like a child who is innocent and meek. Help me to choose to walk in Your wisdom and love that I may put aside my pride and self-centeredness which are not pleasing to You. Give me the grace to serve and love others in glory to Your name. I pray that You continually mold me and change me to be a person who reflects Your love and grace. I pray that I will have the patience to listen first and understand first. I pray that I will have the grace to step back and reflect in challenging situations. I pray that I will have the wisdom to be self-controlled and gentle because I know that I don’t know everything, but You know all things. I pray that I will choose to let You be the Master of my life in every situation. I pray that I will be teachable and I will persevere in the areas of my life where You correct me and prod me toward the right path. Lord, forgive me for every selfish and prideful thought, word, and action I have done. I know they do not come from You for You are a God of goodness and love. Thank you, Lord. In Jesus’ name, amen!

Marveling at God’s Power

I thought how great and amazing God is. Truly He is a miracle worker and a faithful God. These thoughts ran through my head as I remembered God’s unexpected answers to my prayers in the past. I was praying for our needs and thinking how we could make it through and then my thoughts shifted to how the Lord faithfully met every need and helped us with every problem we faced before. And I marveled at how God had answered every prayer in ways that were far beyond me.

When we meet Jesus and come to know Him personally, we cannot help but be awed at His greatness. We cannot help but marvel at His power.

The disciples had many such experiences with Jesus. They never met another person who could do things as Jesus did. They experienced His power firsthand and saw it with their eyes. Being with Jesus was a life-changing moment.

When he got into a boat, his disciples followed him. Behold, a violent storm came up on the sea, so much that the boat was covered with the waves; but he was asleep. The disciples came to him and woke him up, saying, “Save us, Lord! We are dying!” He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then he got up, rebuked the wind and the sea, and there was a great calm. The men marveled, saying, “What kind of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
– Matthew 8 : 23-27 (WEB)

Like the disciples, we fear and worry when a difficult or problematic situation arises. But look what happened when they called on Jesus for help.

  • Jesus answered the disciples’ call.
  • Jesus dispelled their fear and worry.
  • Jesus made a miracle in their terrible situation.

The disciples experienced God’s power during the storm when they called to God for help. And when they did, they marveled at God’s ability to command the wind and the sea to be still.

If the wind and the sea obey God, there is nothing that God cannot do. Time is His. Every event is under His control. We only need to call on Him and we will see and marvel at His power and faithfulness to help us even when we lack the faith to believe.

May you experience the marvelous power of God as you trust Him to answer your needs according to His great wisdom and love.
