Let no one deceive himself. If anyone thinks that he is wise among you in this world, let him become a fool, that he may become wise.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, “He has taken the wise in their craftiness.”
And again, “The Lord knows the reasoning of the wise, that it is worthless.

– 1 Corinthians 3:18-20 (WEB)

The Word of God is like a light that shines in the dark. It is like a chisel that chips away the outer surface and exposes the layer beneath. These are what I exactly feel whenever I read the Bible and suddenly a spotlight shine making the words stand out.

Our wisdom is worthless in the light of the wisdom of God. This realization hit afresh as I read the passage. Truly, when we focus on our gained knowledge more than loving God, we tend to become prideful. We boast in what we know and can do. The Apostle Paul addressed the issue over food sacrificed to idols by saying this:

“Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn’t yet know as he ought to know.
But if anyone loves God, the same is known by him.”

– 1 Corinthians 8:1-3 (WEB)

How amazing it is that loving God puts us in the right frame of mind, feeling, and actions!

It is not that we know, but that God knows. It is not that we are wise, but that God is wise. God’s wisdom is perfect and infinitely beyond us that our own wisdom become foolishness and worthless. There is nothing that we could boast about except in the wisdom and might of God. Therefore, we must put our faith in God and not in men.

Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, And don’t lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him, And he will direct your paths.
Don’t be wise in your own eyes. Fear Yahweh, and depart from evil.
It will be health to your body, And nourishment to your bones.

– Proverbs 3:5-8 (WEB)
