Who Will You Obey?

The world has a different rule
Even what it deems good
Isn't good after all
When it tries to cover the truth.

For the truth is God's Word
Sometimes, they don't like it
Even when they knew or heard
They just don't care a bit.

Be careful to believe
The world lies in coated sweetness
Test all, test that and this
In light of God's Word and godliness.

The world clouds what we understand
Sometimes beautiful, but it's not right
We must follow God rather than men
Take a stand, give a fight.

They will ask you to do
Things that don't please God
Ignoring what is true
But do good and hate the bad!

The account of the miracle the Apostles had experienced when the high priest put them to prison in Acts 5:16-33, was an eye-opener of our status here on earth as the followers of the Lord Jesus Christ.

The story was that the apostles were advised by the high priests to not speak to the people about Jesus Christ. But the apostles chose to keep on speaking the truth and ignored the command of the high priests. By so doing, they were imprisoned, but God, through an angel, miraculously opened the doors of the prison and they were freed with the command to speak the Word of God in the temple. When the high priests learned about it, they could not do anything else upon the suggestion of Gamaliel to let them be. But they had beaten up the apostles and charged them to not speak about Jesus Christ again.

“Didn’t we strictly charge you not to teach in this name? Behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood on us.”
But Peter and the apostles answered, “We must obey God rather than men.”

Acts 5:28-29 (WEB)

The apostles chose to obey God rather than the command of the high priest. This put them in a difficult situation where suffering and death become threats to them.

We still face the same situation today, although, not of death for many parts of the world, and sadly, suffering and death for Christians in some parts of the world. Christians are expected to do things or accept beliefs that are against Biblical principles, with the rationalization that it is all right because it is good for the majority or that it is the practice of the majority. This is prevalent in the workplace. Sometimes, when we stick to doing what pleases God, we become enemies of the world.

As Christians, what is our stand? What is our choice? To whom are we going to listen?

Is obeying God worth the suffering we experience in this world?

“Blessed are you when people reproach you, persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
Rejoice, and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

– Matthew 5:11-12 (WEB)

  1. 💜 Goddess Knows Better than God EveryOne; so “obey” She who must be “obeyed” EveryBody unless She is Cranky and Confused, then Care for Her

  2. Thanks for the reminder to let us know there are still seven thousand that have not bowed to Baal and that we as children of God cannot continue to straddle the fence but make a conscious decision to stand on the Word and obey the Word. My daughter and I were just discussing this very subject yesterday. America’s soul is at stake and if we as children of the Most High don’t stand for His truth in obedience the side effects will be catastrophic. Again, thank you for this on-time reminder so eloquently written. Blessings and Peace!
