God’s Sustaining Power

I woke up this morning thirsty for the Word of God, His truth, and comfort. As I was having my prayer time, I blurted out, “Lord, help us in our greatest need at this point in time.” And, as always faithful, always gracious, always loving, and ever-present God is, He gave me comfort when I opened the Bible and read Psalms 55.

This is God’s sustaining grace working again in the most urgent time I needed His presence. He is never late and never absent. At one call, God amazingly makes His presence felt in a way that I could not deny that it is Him working.

Sometimes, life’s situations make us feel like sinking in deep waters but God is our lifesaver who keeps us afloat and who pulls us out of the great waters. He sustains us, bearing us up with His grace and the strength of His presence.

“Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver.”

– Isaiah 46:4 (WEB)

The righteous shall not be moved. All who trust in God as they live in the will of God are called righteous. Their righteousness is not because they are inherently righteous but because they placed their faith in God as demonstrated by their obedience. Look at Abraham, Sarah, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Israel, Rahab, Gideon, Samson, Jephtah, David, Samuel, and the prophets (Hebrews 11). These are people who are called righteous because of their faith in God.

The righteous are blessed because every burden becomes lighter to carry through the grace of our God. Whenever troubles and testings come, we know we can come to God confidently and entrust to Him all our cares. The Bible, in fact, tells us that we should cast or throw off our cares to God. Isn’t that amazing? We could could throw off our worries and troubles to the mighty God because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7).

“Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved.”

– Psalms 55:22 (WEB)

When we throw off our burden to God, Yahweh, the almighty God, He keeps us firmly fixed and strong. We shall not be moved. We are like the wise man who built his house on the rock that even when the rain fell, the floods came rushing, and the strong winds blew, it did not crash down because it had been founded on the rock (Matthew 26:24).

Put your trust in God and do not grow weary in obeying Him for He shall not permit you to be moved.

  1. Especially like the quote from Isaiah. At 67 & 65, my wife and I are getting our house ready to sell, and at times, it seems like an impossible task. Our bodies ache, and we have lost our motivation, but the Lord has continued to be our strength!
