Break my heart, Lord
For every sin I do.
Break my heart, Lord
When I can’t fear You.
Break my heart, Lord
If I forget You.
Break my heart, Lord
When I love more than You.
Break my heart, Lord
When I dislike what’s true.
Break my heart, Lord
When I care not what I do.
Break my heart, Lord
Help me love and honor You.
We live in a world where doing wrong becomes a natural thing to do. This world is fallen because it has sinned against God. By our own will, we could not do what pleases God. Because of these, we pass off ungodly things and ways as good just because they bring pleasure to us but God’s Word teaches us what is right and good. It teaches us the truth. It leads us to life of peace and blessing. It leads us to the precious and glorious hope we have of the eternal life through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.
The Word of God tells us that to live for God is to turn away from sin. Repentance is the center of a genuine relationship with God and the powerful key for spiritual growth. As we grow spiritually, all else follows. Thus, we need to turn away from any sin that hinders us from loving God completely and obeying Him with all of our heart. Be sorrowful and be in pain when sin is done. Have a heart that breaks in pieces whenever sin is committed in any way and form. Huge or small (as the world sees it), we must look at sin as it is as how the Word of God sees it, and reject it, turn away from it, and surrender it to the feet of our gracious God. Brokenness of heart and spirit towards sinful motivations and deeds are what we need today. God desires a contrite heart and a broken spirit when we follow Him.
“Lord, open my lips. My mouth will declare your praise. For you don’t delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it. You have no pleasure in burnt offering. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. O God, you will not despise a broken and contrite heart.”
– Psalms 51:15-17 (WEB)
Sacrifices that please God are not the outward practices and rituals we do that men could see but they are the ones that are deep-seated in our heart which give us pure motivations. A contrite heart is a heart that breaks in pain whenever ungodliness is done. A contrite heart is a heatbreak of the Christian when the Word of God is trangressed.
Let us pray for a contrite heart because Christians whose hearts are contrite shine their light brightly in every place in this planet.
