Joyful in God

Trust and joy come together. In light of obedience to God, they always come together. Even when the way is rough and difficult and the road may be bumpy, when we choose to trust God, He gives us peace, and our heart fills with joy.

It is impossible to experience joy in God without trusting God. And trusting God is not mere emotional or head-knowledge belief kind of trust but it is standing firm in obedience in the middle of difficulty. One such difficulty is when the majority thinks and acts contrary to the principle of the Bible. In such situations, what shall we do? When most people around us say, “You’re not doing anything wrong”, “Everybody does it”, “It’s a good opportunity, seize it”, “As long as you’re happy, it is okay” and yet deep inside we know God’s way is different. We know that it is not the way that pleases God. Such circumstance is quite difficult. Once we choose to obey God and ignore the voices of the world, we stand out and oftentimes, that standing out is so unpopular to the majority. Can we risk this kind of trust to God? Can we really trust God to work out things for us in His way and not ours especially when we are tempted to do things on our own, jump at opportunities that are enticing, or give in to the pressures around us?

The Bible says, we are blessed when we trust God. No matter the difficulty, may we choose to trust God and experience abundant joy in life.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in Yahweh, and whose confidence is in Yahweh. For he will be as a tree planted by the waters, who spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes, but its leaf will be green, and will not be concerned in the year of drought. It won’t cease from yielding fruit.

– Jeremiah 17:7-8 (WEB)

Trusting God is joyfully obeying God. This may sometimes be a tough thing to do. Our flesh is always at war with our spirit. When the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life come enticing us with pleasures that our flesh enjoy, we find ourselves in the battle. If we are just conscious of what we do and conscious of God’s Spirit always prodding, leading, and teaching us the right way that pleases God we will realize that every day is a battle of choosing to obey God.

It is a battle because we are in the flesh and the world does not please God. Nowadays, we have a form of revolution of “freedom” and a dominant principle is moving around the world capitalizing on being free to do anything we want and anything that makes us happy. This is dangerous for Christians because we do not do anything that we just want and anything that makes us happy. If we are Christians, our life are crucified with Christ, and the life we now live, we live by faith in the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who love us and who gave Himself up for us (Galatians 2:20).

We do not follow the way of the world. We are supposed to be renewed in our minds and not conforming to the patterns of this world (Romans 12:2). We are to find obedience to God a joyful thing. We must joyfully trust God in all things.

“Trust in Yahweh, and do good. Dwell in the land, and enjoy safe pasture. Also delight yourself in Yahweh, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to Yahweh. Trust also in him, and he will do this: he will make your righteousness shine out like light, and your justice as the noon day sun.

– Psalms 37:3-6 (WEB)

Choose to trust God. Trust is obeying God in every situation we face. Choose to take pleasure in the ways of God and what God teaches us in His Word. Delight in Him. Delight in the way He leads us. When we trust God, we delight in Him. When we trust God, its end result is joyful obedience. Disobedience is mistrust of God’s ability and power to give us better solutions and better plans. When we trust God, we delight in obeying His will. His Word promises that when we delight in God, He shall give us our desires. Yes, He does because the desires of those who delight in God are desires that pleases God and are in line with the will of God.

If you are faced with the decision to obey God or not, always choose to obey. You may not be able to see the road ahead and see the future, but trust in how He works mightily and trust in His perfect love for you. You will never loose when you choose to obey the LORD. His presence alone is a majority!
