Battle your fears. When I was a little girl, I was extremely afraid of the dark. When the light goes off in the middle of the night and pitch black darkness washes off in the room, I would call my father for rescue. While sobbing in terrible fear, I would call Papang and he would come to my side with a candle or a flashlight. His presence and the light he provided calmed my fear and enabled me to doze off peacefully back to sleep.
That was how I battled my fear when I was young. I always called on my Papang. Papang was always there, patient and understanding of his little girl who was afraid of the dark. This fear of darkness that I had continued up to my high school days and gradually subsided when I was in college. It disappeared when I gave my life to Christ and learned to surrender my anxiousness and feelings of terror. I learned to pray and rebuked fear as my faith in God grew through His Word. When I experienced the freedom from my bondage to fear of darkness, I knew how powerful God is. The spirit of fear had no power or authority to cast its darkness when I come against it in the name of Jesus Christ. Today, I don’t fear going outside even when it is dark. I don’t get anxious when lights go off suddenly. Truly, God freed me from this fear. I was freed from the fear of darkness because I learned to battle my fears by calling on God.
“For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control.”– 2 Timothy 1:7 (WEB)
We can be delivered from all our fears when we seek God. Many people face fears of different kinds. How sad to see people living in fear and being overpowered by fears. The god of this world uses fear to bind people’s mind and hold their life captive. Just imagine how much fears we experience in our life. For instance, I may have overcomed my fear of darkness through God’s power, but I had to work out my faith again to experience the same freedom in other areas of my life where fear resides. There are just so many things that we fear about in life. Fears that make us feel threatened, bondaged, and debilitated are not from God.
The great news for all of us is that we can be delivered from all fears. The answer does not come from psychology books or from scholarly journals. The answer is in the Bible. The answer is God, Yahweh, the most High! He delivers us from all fears.
We can call to our Abba Father everytime fears threaten us. He never leave us nor forsake us. God casts out all our fears and any fear we have because His love for us is perfect. When we know that nothing can shake God’s love for us and nothing can separate us from the love of God through Jesus Christ our Lord, we are not assailed by fears. We stand secure in the power of God to deliver us and protect us.
“There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear has punishment. He who fears is not made perfect in love.”– 1 John 4:18 (WEB)
“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from God’s love which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”– Romans 8:37-39 (WEB)
David, the man who experienced great trouble and fears from his enemies, found deliverance from fears through God alone. His way of battling his fears was to seek God. Only when we seek the Lord, put our faith in Him, and surrender our fears, anxieties, and worries to Him could we experience deliverance from all our fears.
“I sought Yahweh, and he answered me, and delivered me from all my fears.”– Psalms 34:4 (WEB)
Note how deliverance came only after David sought the LORD. Unless we seek God to help us and save us from our fears, we could not experience deliverance. Seeking God is not passive belief. It is not an emotional faith. It is obedience by acting on the faith that God is Yaheweh, the one true God, who is sovereign, mighty, powerful, and who defeated the works of darkness through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
When fear tries to overpower you, rebuke it and call on the Father. God shall answer your call for help as He answered David. In His name is deliverance from all fears!
How great it is that we could live a life with freedom from fears. Freedom from fears, though, does not mean a calloused feeling that God’s people never feel afraid or anxious. Freedom from fears mean that fear do not overwhelm us and do not destroy our life, our faith, our joy, and our peace. God’s people still feel fear and anxiousness but these feelings do not control us anymore. Instead, God’s Spirit controls us and make us victorious over fear.
