Confident in God’s Answer

The periods of loneliness and helplessness are when we can bare out our true feelings to God. These types of moments are intense. They drive us to kneel before God in prayer. It is through these moments that we experience our only hope and help is God alone.

While reading Psalms 6, I am struck by how honest king David was to God. When he was surrounded and pursued by his adversaries, he went to God for solace. He wept before God to seek his help. His prayer expressed his deep burden, sorrow, and anguish. He was seeking salvation from God. It also let me realized how much king David relied on God to save him from his troubles.

“Have mercy on me, Yahweh, for I am faint. Yahweh, heal me, for my bones are troubled. My soul is also in great anguish. But you, Yahweh—how long? Return, Yahweh. Deliver my soul, and save me for your loving kindness’ sake. For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give thanks? I am weary with my groaning. Every night I flood my bed. I drench my couch with my tears. My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.

– Psalms 6:2-7 (WEB)

Sometimes, we find it difficult to be totally honest about how we feel. We could not talk to others or truly open up for fear that we would be misunderstood. Perhaps, our burden is something we do not feel comfortable to share to others. To God, it is a different thing. We can be openly honest to Him about how we truly feel when we are anguished by troubles. We can tell God our sorrows and our feelings of helplessness.

Regardless of pain, have faith in God’s faithfulness to answer. Pain can either render us faithless or faithful depending on how we respond to it. When we are suffering, as David was, let us also respond in faith. Remember the faithfulness of God and His unchanging qualities. He remains true and He is trustworthy.

King David said,

“Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for Yahweh has heard the voice of my weeping. Yahweh has heard my supplication. Yahweh accepts my prayer.

– Psalms 6:8-9 (WEB)

Take confidence of who God is. It is knowing God fully that would enable us to rise up in faith even with the great problems pushing us down. Look to God and seek Him. Notice how king David focused on God and sought Him while he was feeling the anguish of his trouble. When we are overwhelmed, go to God. The more we feel the anguish, the more we should call to God in faith. Troubles are faith shakers. Troubles are faith movers. Troubles are opportunities to stick with God as He sticks with us and for us.

God is faithful. He hears our voice of weeping. Hallelujah to our faithful God!
