He Never Fails

What God says, He does. He is trustworthy. He does not act according to what we think or what we say to Him. God acts according to what He thinks and what He has planned. He works out things by His own will. And, His will is always good and perfect, though this does not mean that God would eliminate all the bad things in the world to make things good for us. It is never like that. However, we are given the assurance that He never fails in every promise He made in His Word.

We may be accustomed with people disappointing us by breaking their promise. It is a heart-breaking experience when we expect something to happen and yet it did not because someone broke his or her promise. When I was a little girl, my mother would used to promise to buy me toys like when they would go out for an errand and I liked to go with them but they didn’t want me to. So, to keep me from sulking, she would promise to buy something for me. But, most of those times, she would arrive home empty handed. For a little girl, that was a huge deal. In my heart, I expected it and I was excited for it because my own mother told me that she would give me my favorite toy. After a while, it dawned on me that her promises where half-hearted, only meant to keep me from crying and later on, I started to doubt whatever promises she made. I was not angry at my mother but there was some negative emotion that accompanied that experience. I gradually lost trust in her words because of many dissapointments. This experience had a great impact on me that as a parent now I make sure that I follow through the promises I make to my children.

God does not disappoint us. He does not put our hope to shame. Yes, there are times when God does not answer our prayer in the way we expect but that disappointment is not a result of God breaking His Word. In this kind of situation, we are disappointed because God did not act according to our will and desire. We are disappointed because God operated according to His will for us. He could never break His Word. He is faithful that though we are faithless, He remains faithful because He cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13).

For as the rain comes down and the snow from the sky, and doesn’t return there, but waters the earth, and makes it grow and bud, and gives seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so is my word that goes out of my mouth: it will not return to me void, but it will accomplish that which I please, and it will prosper in the thing I sent it to do.”

God is faithful to bring us to a place of good pasture as He promised. Joshua 21 is an account of God’s faithfulness to Israel and His being a trustworthy God who fulfilled all of His promises to His people. Three things God fulfilled to Israel as He had promised to them.

1. He gave to Israel all the lands with pasture lands as He swore to give to their fathers (Joshua 21:41-43). – provision and abundance
2. God gave Israel rest and delivered all their enemies into their hands (Joshua 21:44). – protection and security
3. All good things which God spoke to Israel came to pass (Joshua 21:45). – assurance of God’s faithfulness and trusworthiness

Yahweh in the time of Joshua is the same Yahweh today. God is unchanging. He is the same mighty, sovereign, and faithful God yesterday, today, and in all the future to come. His plan for His people remains to be good for all generations. That extends to us who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior even if we are not Jews by blood.

God’s plan of bringing us to a place of good pasture, to a place of rest, and to a place of assurance in His presence remains to be true upto this time. Jesus Christ died for us so we could have an abundant life of joy, peace, and righteousness and a blessed life where His provision flows. Provision, does not guarantee wealth, but it guarantees that His people shall not lack any good thing. The same promise extends to us that when we give our burdens to Jesus, He gives rest to the weary (Matthew 11:28-30). When we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, we find eternal rest for our soul in God’s kingdom. The same assurance God gives us today, that whenever we call upon Jesus, He hears us when we ask Him according to His will (1 John 5:14).
