Awake or Asleep

Sleeping and waking up are God’s graces. We may become too confident of our capabilities and achievements but there are many things that could keep our feet on the ground and which remind us that we are never self-sufficient. Take for instance, our sleeping and waking up. Every day we are in a cycle of sleeping and waking up. When we lack sleep, every thing else is affected. Our focus, our mental processing, our mood, our work quality, and our health. When we oversleep the same things are affected. We may tend to take sleeping and waking up for granted but they could affect the core activities of our life. Some people need to be treated to be able to sleep or they need to take prescription drugs to get to sleep because sleeping and waking up are natural, needed, and important part of our life. It is unnatural not to be able to sleep. And, not to wake up from sleep is a fearful thought! But what is the point? Sleeping and waking up are crucial to our life yet these do not come from our own ability, skill, or talent. Man could induce sleep and could set alarm to wake up, but none of us could control when to sleep and when not to sleep. Maybe, for a short while, yes, but our body will seek its natural response to getting its sleep and to waking up in the appointed time of the day as designed by God. The point is that even sleeping and waking up are God’s graces to us. We sleep and we wake up every day because God enables us to. God sets for us the time in the day to sleep and the time to wake up. God is the only one who is in perfect control of that.

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”

– Ecclesiastes 3:1 (WEB)

God sustains us whether we are asleep or we are awake. It is an amazing thing to ponder about. God is a caring God. He is kind and faithful. Imagine we wake up every day to each of our own affairs and we get busy with work and goals, yet He arranges all things for us every day. Imagine retiring to sleep and laying down unaware of the things happening around, yet God is there taking care of all things and ensuring that we get a good sleep and a safe rest. Whether we are asleep or we are awake, God is there. He is present. He is Immanuel. He is with us in every thing and in our every day.

“I laid myself down and slept. I awakened, for Yahweh sustains me.

– Psalms 3:5 (WEB)

What is more amazing is that even when we face great trouble, we can have confidence of God’s sustenance when we sleep or when we wake up. Such was David’s confidence on God when he was in big trouble with his son Absalom. He had peace and confidence even with the danger and threat he was facing. He could sleep with peace and wake up the next day comforted by God’s sustaining hand.

What troubles you today? What keeps you awake and worried? Turn it over to God. Take it to the LORD Jesus in prayer. Receive His grace and peace. Jesus is your strength and peace as He was to David. He causes the sun to rise and set and causes the moon to light up so you could have a time to sleep and a time to wake up. He is there to sustain you whether you are asleep or awake.

  1. Sleeping, my favorite hobby! Hahaha if there is one thing that im so proud about, it is the ability to sleep anywhere and anytym without so much hassle. What a blessing! Haha The very reason why I don’t keep grudge and easily forgive or ask for forgiveness is because I value peace of mind so much. Only then I can sleep peacefully. Truly, being able to sleep peacefully is one of God’s greatest blessings to mankind. I remember, i started experiencing trouble sleeping when i started to take the responsibility of providing for the family, i can’t sleep peacefully as i am always thinking where to get money for our food and so much more. But when i found out that i can entrust all my cares to the Lord, puff! Just lyk that, life became easier, happier, and peaceful. When i learned to surrender everything to God and acknowledged that im just limited and I can’t do everything, it’s as if i have a natural sleeping pills within me, I sleep well and peacefully. I realize that indeed if we come to Jesus, there is really peace, if u have Jesus, u tend to act in a manner that your inner peace is protected, it’s just so natural to have peace if we have Jesus.❤️ I learned many years ago that sleeping is also an act of worship, if we don’t sleep well, we don’t honor the Lord. It’s really His design that we sleep to recharge ourselves from very tiring works. And one last spill about my secrets in life, haha everytime im doing lengthy or heavy reports or works, my secret to fast and efficient work is sleeping hahahhaa as im doing my work, once i feel that I don’t have idea anymore, i would really stop and sleep, i will just set an alarm for 30mins to 1hr haha after sleeping, i feel renewed and full of ideas. Hahha Praise the Lord for this blessings.❤️❤️❤️❤️
