Victory Over the World

Faith is the way to please to God. Faith is more than just a head knowledge belief that a Superior Being exist. It is sure belief that Jesus is the Son of God who made an atoning sacrifice for our sins. The Bible defines faith as

“Now faith is assurance of things hoped for, proof of things not seen. For by this, the elders obtained approval. By faith we understand that the universe has been framed by the word of God, so that what is seen has not been made out of things which are visible.

– Hebrews 11:1-3 (WEB)

In faith, assurance and proof are present regardless whether the things are seen or not. The invisible and the unfelt are not the basis of truth. The truth depends on faith in God. Just as people like Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, and Sarah who “all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them and embraced them from afar, and having confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth” (Hebrews 11:13), have lived in faith to God even when they were not able to see the immediate answer. All of them and many others were commended for their faith because they were sure of the great hope they have in God even when they did not receive the promise of God in this lifetime.

Thus, to live a life that is commendable and praiseworthy in the eyes of God, one must have faith in God.

“Without faith it is impossible to be well pleasing to him, for he who comes to God must believe that he exists, and that he is a rewarder of those who seek him.”

– Hebrews 11:6 (WEB)

It is impossible to obey God without faith in Him. Faith dictates us to trust God in whatever situation we may be facing. Faith in God leads us to continue on believing, obeying, and trusting the Lord Jesus Christ.

Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. My mother loved to sing the hymns and because I always heard her sing in church and at home, I learned to sing some of the hymns too. I loved those hymns and whenever I listen to them now, I remember my mother. One of the hymns she used to sing was “Faith is the Victory” by John H. Yates. The too familiar melody of the chorus is “Faith is the victory. Faith is the victory. Oh, glorious victory that overcomes the world.” Such a beautiful song that speaks the Word of God.

“For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?“

– 1 John 5:4-5 (WEB)

Faith in God is loving God and the previous verses explains that loving God is keeping His commandments (1 John 5:1-3). And God’s commandments are not burdensome or heavy or sorrowful because when we are born of God, we believe in His Son Jesus Christ. Believing in Jesus is what gives us victory to overcome the world! That is the faith that overcomes the world.

To overcome means to gain superiority. We gain superiority over sin, over defeat, over temptations, over persecutions, over oppressions, over the enemy and over all the problems and trials this world throws at us. We do not overcome by mere belief without acting on that belief. We overcome by faith that shows itself in works, that is, keeping the commandments of God. Obedience through faith in Jesus Christ is what makes us an overcomer in this world.

You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world.”

– 1 John 4:4 (WEB)

I pray you have the joy of obeying the Lord Jesus Christ each day. May God Holy Spirit fan the flame in you to keep you firm in your faith and to steadfastly obey God.

Faith in Jesus Christ is the victory that overcomes the world!

  1. Faith is powerful! It can move mountains! Though having and maintaining that faith is very hard and challenging if we are in the situations that is very disappointing, devastating, and very sad. But with the daily communication, with intimate relationship with Him, with daily obedience, and daily filling, I believe no matter how hard it is, it is still there. Moreover, having sorrounded by people who love Jesus so much is another way of keeping that faith.. ultimately I believe, knowing who God really is and what He is capable of doing are the best armor of keeping the faith in whatever situation..
