Our Healing Experience

Getting sick during the pandemic is like being given a death sentence. To all those who got sick and especially the ones who had flu during this pandemic, they would understand what I mean by saying that getting sick during this time is actually like being sentenced to death. Before when we get the flu, we just take paracetamol and other medications needed and we go about our task in a normal way. Now, when we catch the flu, we carry the sickness and its pains along with the huge fear of not being able to survive it. Take my word, the flu during this pandemic is a lot worse and a lot scarier. My husband and I went through it and how we praise the Lord for the healing we received. This post would be about how we have experienced healing and how faithful the Lord Jesus is in provision, in comfort, in peace, and in all areas where we need Him.

As we went through each day of fever, loss of smell and taste, body pains, and a lot of fears for our condition and our children, several Bible verses kept popping in my mind. I knew it was the Lord who was reminding me every time to keep our eyes on Him. I would like to share these verses to you before I would go into the details of our experience.

Ask, and it will be given you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and it will be opened for you. For everyone who asks receives. He who seeks finds. To him who knocks it will be opened.”

– Matthew 7:7-8 (WEB)

Matthew 7:7-8 is one of the Bible verses that I kept on praying and declaring while we were awefully sick. God was convicting me to keep on asking or praying because He gives and He answers.

He said, “Come!”Peter stepped down from the boat and walked on the waters to come to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was strong, he was afraid, and beginning to sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus stretched out his hand, took hold of him, and said to him, “You of little faith, why did you doubt?” When they got up into the boat, the wind ceased.

– Matthew 14:29-32 (WEB)

These verses in Matthew 14 gave me comfort of how God is with us in our fears. This was the story when Peter walked on the water when He saw Jesus but he started sinking when he looked at the winds and the waves. God reminded me through this passage that whatever sickness and symptoms I feel or see, we only need to look to Him and cry out like Peter did, “Lord, save me!” He is present, He is with us, and He always saves.

He will call on me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honor him. I will satisfy him with long life, and show him my salvation.”

– Psalm 91:15-16 (WEB)

We have prayed through each of the verse of Psalm 91 during our ordeal. It has brought us peace, comfort, and hope. It strengthened our faith that God is with us and He never abandons us and that it is His will to rescue and protect His people. It is His will to give us life and satisfy us with long life. We held onto His Word firmly.

When he had come into the house, the blind men came to him. Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I am able to do this?”They told him, “Yes, Lord.” Then he touched their eyes, saying, “According to your faith be it done to you.”

– Matthew 9:28-29 (WEB)

These story of two blind men healed by Jesus had also been a source of peace and revelation to me. We only need to believe and say “Yes, Lord”. It is His will to bless us and give us an abundant life.

God’s sovereignty is always present and it is especially seen not in the absence of troubles or pain but through the difficulties we face. This is our testimony of how great, how marvelous, how powerful amd sovereign God is as He led us to many learning and insight in His Word. He deepened our trust in Him through the sickness we went through.

This sickness we have experienced, taught us and made us realize several things.

  • A sick person needs not only physical support such as food, medicine, or water but spiritual and emotional supports as well. The condition of our emotions and spirit affect our physical condition. We could attest to this because even when we felt very sick and fearful, we also felt peaceful and supported. This is because along with physical comforts like food and medicines, we also have the spritiual and emotional support from friends who prayed for us and who extended their care to us during this difficult period. These helped us to be strong. We are grateful for all of our friends who really cared. Their prayers were so precious and so appreciated.
  • Life is not about the material things we aspire and desire to have. During those days when we felt like “is this covid?” We were already contemplating of how easy it is to die this time and how, at any moment, we could leave our young sons behind. Death is sure. Life is short. And when we come face to face with this, none of the material things matter anymore. Not even the beautiful clothes nor the beautiful house matter. It is our soul that matters the most.
  • Pandemic is a time to call on God. We need Him.
  • Our life is never on our own hands. It is God who holds our life. He gives and He takes away.
  • God heals and saves. For several times during those days when we were sick, we felt immediate relief from pain and difficulty in breathing. It was replaced by peace and comfort. There were inmediate answers and there were answers that took days to see. All the same, God hears our prayers and He gives to those who ask and believe. It was not just a journey of sickness. It was a journey of healing through God’s grace.

Believe in the name of Jesus. Keep seeking Him. Keep praying. He answers. He saves. He heals.

  2. Know what? Last first week of May, all four of us at home were found positive of Covid 19. God is good. My mom who is 92 now must got a slight overnight, the following day she was well. My two kids got fever for four days. My sense of hearing was affected until now, group discussions, music and videos have turned so noisy that I cannot understand.

    1. Wow God is realling protecting your home. Praise God. It is incredible to know that your mom, at 92 years of age, did not get awefully sick. Amazing. Yes, God is good. He keeps you and your family safe. I hope your hearing will return to normal. It must be very uncomfortable. Take care.
