The Habit of Seeking God

Let obedience to God be your habit. Oftentimes, you choose things in life with the dominant thought if it pleases you or not. “Will I be happy if I make this decision?” “Do I feel satisfied?” “What will others say?” These are not really wrong questions. They are essential questions too. They are part of the process of weighing things and situations so that you can balance out what you need most and where you need most to focus on. However, they should not be the first question that you should be asking. All these questions can actually be fused in one: “Is this pleasing to God?” When you put God first, your success, happiness, peace of mind, and satisfaction become sure and genuine. It is a win-win situation. There is no losing side with God. Therefore, obedience to God, should come first. Let it grow in on you to daily and consistently seek Him first. The Bible says,

“Instead, seek his kingdom, and these things will be added to you.” – Luke 12:31 (ESV)

Develop the habit of seeking God by practicing it all the time. Whether the need is as serious as a choice of a job or as trivial as a choice of movie to watch, reflect always if the choices you are about to do is in line with what pleases God. Habit, they say, is a repetitive act that is done over a long period or substantial amount of time such that it became ingrained in you. Over time, it becomes natural for you to act in such manner because you have been practicing it for so long a time. When you apply this in your obedience to God, you can make it a habit. A wonderful habit, at that. Each day presents opportunities to involve God in every plan and activity you do. Contrary to some opinion that obeying God can turn life into a boring, dull, and unexciting journey, living for God is the best choice you could make. It is the wisest choice that you could ever do. The habit of seeking God and seeking to please Him in your life will never turn you to the wrong and dull road. Yes, it may not always be an easy or a quick recipe to success, but it is always sure that your life will dwell on matters that are truly significant for which you would never regret. If you seek success, happiness, or meaning in life, then make it your habit to seek God first. As a matter of fact, whatever you seek in life, the answers can all be found through God. Try Him. Test the Lord in this and you will see and you will taste the goodness of His presence!

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4 (ESV)
