Dethrone yourself. You cannot be your own master. You cannot be the one in control. You are not the highest authority of your life. You cannot take the glory. These pretty much give you the picture of how your life becomes when you surrender it to the Lord. The Lord Jesus Christ takes the throne of your life. He becomes your Master. He is the One in control. He is the highest authority in your life. And He alone should take the glory. You let go of the old sinful life and let God cleanse you from within. Surrendering to God and letting Him take control may not be that easy but this is the key for God to work in your life. For surrender to take place, you have to step into the position of humility. Be humble before God and man. And His grace will pour out in your life.
“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6.
“The Lord lifts up the humble; he casts the wicked to the ground.” – Psalm 147:6.
It is inherent of a humble heart to seek God. A proud heart is self-contained and self-sufficient. A proud heart does not feel the need to to call on God and seek His counsel or His presence. It is only the humble who is able to rest in God, give full reliance on Him, and exercise trust that God is most powerful, all-knowing, sovereign, and in control! Therefore, the humble seek the Lord and His righteousness for he knows and accepts that apart from God he can do nothing (John 15:5). He knows in his heart that only God can lead Him to the way that is sure, abundant, righteous, peaceful, and blessed!
Learn the lesson from Moab, one of the enemies of Israel. God pronounced judgement against Moab because “he magnified himself against the Lord” (Jeremiah 48:26, 42; Zephaniah 2:8). Anyone who is proud before God sets himself against God. And God destroys the proud. So it is good and pleasing to God to live in humility and seek Him in meekness and uprightness of heart. Seek God, seek His righteousness, and seek humility. Let God take control and let Him lead you the way. Allow His loving hands to shape you and mold you to be the person He desires you to be. Allow Him to work out your circumstances for your welfare and best interest.
“Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land, who do his just commands; seek righteousness; seek humility; perhaps you may be hidden on the day of the anger of the Lord.” – Zephaniah 2:3.
