Being a Christian means being a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ. What does it really mean to be a Christian? Your religion does not make you a Christian. Neither your parents make you one. When I was younger, I thought going to church, knowing about God, and having parents who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, already makes me a Christian. I was so wrong. Being a Christian is more than that. For one to be a follower of the Lord Jesus Christ, one must personally believe in Him and receive Him as his God and Lord of his life.
When you receive Jesus Christ in your life, it becomes a start of a new life. You leave the old self and live out the new nature of Christ in you. “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” -Galatians 2:20. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17. If your old sinful self runs your life even after you profess to believe and follow Jesus Christ, that faith is dead. “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.” -James 2:26.
Walk in the Lord Jesus Christ. You may believe Jesus Christ as your God, but do you believe Him as your Lord? Believing in Jesus as your God and believing Him as your Lord are two different things. They are entirely different. He can be your God but it can also be that He is not actually your Lord. To receive Jesus as Lord means you live your life in Him. “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him.” -Colossians 2:6. Your life is not yours anymore. The Bible says, “for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” -1 Corinthians 6:20. “For at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.” -Ephesians 5:8. There should be a transformation from the old life you live. It may not be an instant change or an overnight change but the fruit of righteousness should be evident in your life. That is walking in Christ as your Lord. You reflect the light of God in you. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” -1 Peter 2:9. Because you are the light of the world (Matthew 5:14). Walking in Jesus has to be a sincere and truthful obedience in God which is not only a mere lipservice. “If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” -1 John 1:6-7.

होता जहा विश्वाश सदा
कहते प्रभु का वास वहाँ
होता भक्ति का वास वहां।।
