God Has You Covered

Your self-worth comes by knowing who you are in Jesus. Self-worth alone which relies on the goodness and value of self and all its qualities without a careful consideration of how God defines you could lead to pride and haughtiness. You may usually hear counsel from social media to value self-worth and prioritize self-worth. If I am not mistaken, that would usually mean putting oneself with all the desires, the cares, and the love of self, first more than anything else. Eventually, you may find yourself putting your needs first before others. It may lead to selfishness if not balanced by the wisdom that comes from God. Is caring for one self sinful? Never! God actually requires that we live a life pleasing to Him and that entails caring for our bodies and our whole self. “Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple.” -1 Corinthians 3:16-17. But when your self-love becomes the motivation for confidence and security in life, it runs contrary to the will of God that those who believe in Him should love God with their whole being and love others as themselves. “And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” – Matthew 22:37-39. This is one of the marvelous graces of God to those who believe in Jesus Christ. When one has committed his life to Jesus, he loses his old self and find a new nature in Jesus. In losing the natural self, he finds the true worth he has. Imagine a caterpillar in the pupa stage, inside the chrysalis, and ready for its metamorphosis. When it comes out as a beautiful butterfly with brightly colored wings, it sheds off the pupa and become a beautiful butterfly. It loses its old appearance and nature and transforms to a lovely creature. Much like this scene is the one whose life is transformed by the Lord Jesus Christ. The worth comes not by focusing on self and catering to all its wants and desires, but by losing the old nature that is not pleasing and transforming to a new nature that has eternal value.

You are valuable because God sees you as such. You may have a lot of fears and insecurities. Life can give us many reasons to be afraid and to be insecure. Nothing seems to be sure. Many people in this modern times are full of anxiety, despair, and depression. Knowledge and technology continuously expand and rise, but they cannot cure the disease of the mind of man. Fears take dominance in the society. I guess, if there is such a physician who is specialized in treating different kinds of fears, he would be quite wealthy by now. It is apparent that many people could not find their worth or could not see their value. Fear is no respecter of person. Rich or poor and young or old; all of us have fears. Fear and insecurity are like twins. Insecurities are embedded in the different fears that you have. You fear failure. You fear rejection. You fear social expectations. They all breed insecurities. But where there is confidence in who you are, fear cannot easily creep in. Where do you get this kind of confidence? It is only in Jesus Christ. He releases you from the snare of fear. God’s Word says, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” -2 Timothy 1:7. “I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.” -Psalm 34:4. Why is seeking God and living for Him delivers you from fear? Because when you know Him for real, you understand who you are in Him. He loves you enough to send His only Son to die in your place for the sins you have committed just to render you guiltless. “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” -2 Corinthians 5:21. Such great and perfect love God has for you is the reason why your fear crumbles in His presence. “There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.” -1 John 4:18. So Jesus says, “Why, even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not; you are of more value than many sparrows.” -Luke 12:7. “Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” – Matthew 6:26. There is nothing about you that God does not know about. And there is nothing in your life that He could not take care of. If he cares for many sparrows and the birds in the air, how much more is His care for you! This is your very worth. This is your value. It does not rest in your limited best. It rests in the perfect love of God for you. You are loved and valuable by your Maker, the Creator of the heavens and the earth! Jesus has you covered. Let fear take the backseat and let Jesus take centerstage.

  1. Amen! I remember watching a series Called Gotham, one of the antagonist there created formula to cure his fear and experimented it on his son, to cut the story short, his son ends up more fearful and was place on asylums for therapy, my thing is, am reminded that We can only find cure for fear on Jesus, None other. We are somewhat trying to play god and ends up adding another problem to our problem. Thank you for this article. Very good reminded though 😊

  2. When I originally commented I clicked the “Notify me when new comments are added” checkbox and now each time a comment is added I get four emails with the same comment. Is there any way you can remove people from that service? Thank you!

Very true that our limited best can never let us realize our true worth, it’s only through the perfect love of God. We can have true peace if we put our confidence in God. I love you Jesus.❤️❤️❤️

Thank you mam Debbie, I love you.😘
