Someone is Watching

We cannot be eyepleasers with God. All of us wear some mask of some kind to shield us from judgement of people. Fear or protection, whatever the reason behind, we do not bare the real us or the very core of who we are when we are in front of other people, especially strangers. We always put the best foot forward. Or for some, perhaps, to put up an image they would like best to portray. We want others to see us in our best persona. I guess, it is a natural self-defense for people. However, it becomes unnatural when we fake it. Baring ourself little by little without telling it all, is not faking it. It is part of the social process of trusting and belonging in a group. But when we show what we are not and protray an entirely different life than who we really are, that is faking. But both accounts are us trying to give a good image to people so they could be pleased with us. We may be able to do this with our families and friends and, foremost, to acquaintances and strangers, but not to God. He sees all and knows all. “The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.” – Proverbs 15:3. And God says, “Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the LORD. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the LORD.” – Jeremiah 23:24. Someone is watching us since conception even to eternity. God is always there seeing what we do and how we spend our life. There is no secret that we can keep from God. Even the most secret doing and most secret moment we wanted to keep off from the eyes of the world, is bared to the sight of God all the time. We cannot be eyepleasers with God. He knows who we really are and what is inside of us. Our intentions and our motivations.

We are accountable to God. Being accountable to someone might not be a very pleasant idea. We have to give an answer to decisions we make and an explanation of actions we do. When we are accountable, we feel like we have no liberty to decide on our own will or that we owe our life’s events to someone else. But this is the very reason why we are accountable to God. He owns our life and He is our Maker. God will ultimately demand an explanation for how we have lived our life. “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.” – Revelation 20:12. While God is not like someone who watches us and waits for us to make mistakes, He does require us to live for Him because we are made to proclaim His glory. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16. As believers of Jesus, we should always remember that God is watching what we do. One day, we have to answer to Him. May we hear the words, “well-done good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:23). “And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.” – Hebrews 4:13.
