Light Up

The world needs light. What is the use of light but to expel darkness? Life without light is like living in blindness. No colors. No clarity. Void. Invisible. There is a sense of hopelessness, limitation, and dread in darkness. But light, even a glimmer of it, puts hope and makes things visible. It exposes to the open for all to see the things that are in the dark. So the world needs light to put hope to the hearts of men. It needs light to stir people to the right direction. It needs light to pave people towards the good and godly path. It needs light to uncover the evil things that this world tolerates, breeds, and concocts! There is so much evil around that burries this world in darkness. But there is also light scattered around, like stars spanning the black sky, dispelling darkness away.

You are the light of the world. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16. These are the very words of Jesus. When you are in Jesus, you become a light of the world. You do not become light of the world by your own righteousness or goodness. Your own good deeds do not make you the light of the world. The Bible explicity says this, “as it is written: ‘None is righteous, no, not one; no one understands; no one seeks for God. All have turned aside; together they have become worthless; no one does good, not even one.’”– Romans 3:10-12. Therefore, doing good is not the primary reason why you can be the light of the world. Where does the light come from? “Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.’” – John 8:12. Jesus is the light of the world. Apart from Him there is no light. So it is only when you abide in Him that you can shine as light of the world. That light comes from Him. It is not of your own. Like the moon that shines the light of the sun so you shine because of the light of the Son. So be the light in wherever God placed you. Walk in the light as God is in the light. Do not cover that light. “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” – 1 John 1:7. “Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true),” – Ephesians 5:7-9. “Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world,” – Philippians 2:14-15. Light up for God in the way you live by choosing daily what is good, right, and true. And when people see your light which are your good works through Jesus Christ, God is glorified. Earthly light glorifies the self but the light of God glorifies God. Choose, then, to light up for the glory of God.

  1. A little light can make a difference. Be a light wherever we are. May we always abide in Jesus so that our light will never be put out. I love you Jesus.
